Today is ‘Good’ Friday. Have you ever wondered why it is called ‘good.’ Today is the day that commemorates the death of Jesus. It seems odd to call it ‘good.’ Yet, it is good. Consider the ‘good’ things that resulted from the death of Jesus. (Much of this was adapted from John Piper’s excellent book Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die.)
- Because Jesus died, He absorbed the wrath of God for us.
- Because Jesus died, our sins can be forgiven.
- Because Jesus died, we are no longer under condemnation.
- Because Jesus died, we can know that God loves us.
- Because Jesus died, He was able to Rise Again!
- Because Jesus died, we no longer have to be slaves to sin.
- Because Jesus died, we can have eternal life.
- Because Jesus died, we do not have to fear death.
Today is a ‘Good’ day. It is ‘Good’ Friday. It is ‘Good’ because of what Jesus did. However, Sunday is coming. It is ‘good’ that Jesus died. But it is even better that He rose from the dead. He is not still dead. He is alive!
Sunday is Easter. I invite you to join with us at Faith Baptist Church. We will have two identical morning services at 9am and then again at 10:30am. We will also have a very unique Sunday night service where we will observe the ordinances of Communion and Baptism. It will truly be a unique day as we celebrate and remember the work of our Savior, Jesus Christ.
Happy ‘Good’ Friday!
Stephen
