I went to college at Bob Jones University (BJU). At BJU, every incoming freshman must join a society, which is their version of a fraternity. I was (and remain) a proud member of Epsilon Zeta Chi (EZX). One highlight of ‘society life’ was a weekly Wednesday night prayer meeting. Usually these meetings were small and very informal. We met in a classroom to sing, pray, and study the Bible. Occasionally, my society would hold what they called a ‘Russian Prayer Meeting.’ This meant that our prayer meeting would be held in the dark. Turning the lights out reminded us that many Christians in Russia (and around the world) have to meet in secret. They meet in the dark or in a hidden place. I think back to those prayer meeting with many fond memories.
When I first heard about the Secret Church event that our church is going to be hosting, I thought of those ‘Russian prayer meetings’ from my college days. This event, however, takes it much further. Secret Church is a simulcast event that FBC will host on Friday, April 24th, from 7pm until 1am. This six hour event will be intense.
Secret Church is not for the uncommitted or faint at heart. It is really designed for those who desire to know God more deeply through His Word and to know His church more fully around the world.
